VIEWS OF MELBOURNE AND VICTORIA BY CHARLES TROEDEL
"Perhaps the finest work of urban topography produced in Australia in the nineteenth century." (Wantrup)

These tinted lithographs with added colour were issued in twelve monthly parts between August 1863 and July 1864.  Each part contained two views and was priced at 7s 6d. The images measure 37 cm wide by 27 com high.  It appears that no full set of parts has survived, except for one recorded in 1926.

The lithographs in this series are the work of a number of artists, however, most plates are drawn and lithographed by the highly skill, yet relatively unknown, Francois Cogne.

Charles Troedel emigrated to Melbourne in 1860 at the age of 24.  The printing business is still in existence today.

Prices range from $AUD 1,900 to $2,900 (from $US 1,070 or £720)
